After successful careers in the hospitality industry and higher education, Dr. Roy Cook devoted his attention to caring for his wife, Gwen, who struggled with Parkinson’s disease for fifteen years. Through their love for each other and their trust in God, they found the inspiration and hope to face each new challenge. After listening to numerous stories of how others navigated their caregiving challenges, Roy felt called to share these collective insights with a broader audience. Since he has published several successful books and numerous academic papers, it seemed only natural to do this by writing Reassuring Guidance: A Faith-Based Caregiving Resource.
Catherine Hilliard is a pastor’s wife who has served in ministry with her husband, Ron Hilliard, for forty-five years at First Presbyterian Church in North Palm Beach, Florida. She is a trained Stephen’s Minister, having 30 years of firsthand experience of walking along with others in their times of suffering and need. She has taught numerous spiritual formation classes, incorporating the spiritual practices of prayer, silence, solitude, rest, peace, knowing God’s presence, and worship. As she took care of her mother for over ten years, she experienced the important role faith has in being equipped to be the best caregiver you can be.

Tell us how we can pray for you and your loved one. While caring for my wife, any time someone asked what they could do for us, I always said, “Please pray for us.” No one ever turned me down and many asked if they could add our names to their prayer lists. Knowing that people in so many different places cared about us and wanted to pray for us provided a calming sense of comfort. Catherine and I would like for you to experience this same sense of comfort. Send your prayer request to the link below.
Let us know if you would like to have your prayer request posted on this website for others to see and to pray for you. We will list your request with your first name(s) only. To see a list of prayer requests, click on "Community Prayers."
We encourage you to look at this list of requests on a regular basis and join in with others by offering up prayers for these people and their requests.
